SPOTLIGHT : DR.BENNET OMALU

Nigerian's are truly a great Nation and one of our greatest wealth is our people, but like with everything else we mismanage and do not nurture this resource as well. Case in Point- Dr Bennet Omalu.

Dr. Bennet Omalu was born during the Civil war in Nnokwa in September 1968, the sixth of seven siblings. His family fled their home in the Enugwu-Ukwu but later came back two years after Dr. Bennet's birth. His full surname is interestingly enough is ONYEMALUKWUBEW which translated to 'if you know, come forth and speak' considering his chosen profession I'll say its a well apt name he bears.

Dr. Bennet Omalu is a forensic pathologist that was the first to publish findings of Chronic Traumatic Encephalitic (CTE) in American football players. You don't think that is impressive? Well what if I tell you He is the central character portrayed by Will Smith in the film Concussion- now am sure you are impressed.

There is so much more I found out about Dr.Bennet Omalu :
1) He is still practicing as the Chief Medical Examiner of San Joaquin County, California and is a Professor in the UC Davis Department of Medical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
2)His early education was all from Nigeria- He went to primary (at age 3) Federal Government College Enugu (Up Unity!) then University of Nigeria,Nsukka
3) He left Nigeria after a vote of no confidence in the political system when M.K.O. was robed of the election (sorry! this just my own opinion)

But don't take my word for it. look him up and wait for the movie Concussion to play in the Nigerian Cinema! I wish Will Smith can come premier it her with his other cast member but *deep sight* only in my dream.
